HOSA Happenings: April 2019

Happy spring!! Here at North, we've had a busy yet successful third quarter. We are getting into the final months of the year, and for most of our seniors, the final months of high school!

The dynamic at our HOSA meetings for the past couple months have been member-oriented. This being said, each of our officers have taken one day to research, plan, and present their individually chosen topics. This has sparked much excitement within our community, as each meeting has been completely unique and fun. Our topics have ranged from Heart Awareness, Psychiatry, the "Science of Sleep", Unknown Medical Professions, and more!! Our HOSA attendance has been steady, unlike last year when we fought much absence after our state conference. Therefore, this may become a tradition in order to secure meetings later in the year and bring various perspectives into our learning.

Not only this, but we were also grateful to have guest speakers come in. We had two officers from the Huntersville Police Department to answer our questions regarding drug trafficking, major trends in the status quo, and other inquiries that were in our heads. We also had a guest from an ALS organization, A Giving Spirit Foundation, that informed us more about the disease and how they help the families suffering from it.

While our regular year meetings are over as exams are coming soon, we do have some service activities that our members can participate in. On April 27th, we are helping out at our local Walk MS eventThen, the following Saturday, on May 4th, we will have our second annual HOSA Bake Sale, in order to raise money for the AGSF. Members have volunteered to bake and bring various desserts and sweet snacks. More information on this will be coming soon.

Lastly, we would like to take a chance to announce our officers for the 2019-20 school year. Haley Bowland, sophomore, is our new President and joining her will be another sophomore, Samantha Briggs, as Vice President. We congratulate these ladies on their dedication to the club this year and we are excited with how you will bring forth this club for next year!!!
