22 Units Collected, Around 66 Lives Saved

Our second annual HOSA Blood Drive was hosted last Wednesday, August 8th. We were able to collect 22 units of blood, contributing to over 22 lives saved, whether this is with blood transfusions, surgery, burns, or countless other ways that a pint of blood can change someone's life.

While we had 14 deferrals, those in which desired to give blood but could not due to various reasons, we appreciated the effort put in as willingness was a tough factor to combat in the midst of our recruiting.

Another success of our blood drive is the amount of people that were walk ins. Many adults who came in had no association with North Meck, and the ability to reach lives from a donor standpoint, whether from word of mouth, or with paper advertising, is a very exciting concept.

For any who helped recruit donors, we appreciate you greatly. We also would like to thank the members of the CBCC who came out and hosted our event. We look forward to continuing this HOSA tradition throughout the next couple of years.

Our Vice President, Sara O'Brien, put together a video about the blood drive, and what is means for some of our officers, as well as the lives of others.

Overall, the officers celebrate our success with getting in the newspaper, being able to recruit more of a variety of members in the community, and having the event run smoother than last year. With school starting in less than a week and a half, we are so excited to start the new school year out strong, and to develop a passionate and hardworking club this year full of current members and new members.

We hope to host 3 more service events throughout the coming year, each in different quarters. Our next service event will be held approximately in October, and we cannot wait to be able to plan that with the entirety of the 2018-19 HOSA club.
