North Meck HOSA Newsletter

Dominating at Districts

On Saturday November 18th, 2017, over two dozen North Mecklenburg High School Students traveled to Hickory Ridge High School in Harrisburg, NC to compete in the District 6 HOSA Conference. Our students competed in a range of events from HOSA Bowl to Medical Photography to Prepared Speaking. These North Mecklenburg Vikings have been training for this conference since mid-September, attending weekly Tuesday practices after school with our advisor Lauren Peace using online resources, textbooks, and the advice of HOSA Officers.

Competitors attended their events from 8 am to 11 am on Saturday. Once finished with their events, several fun opportunities were offered to the competitors. They could choose between watching an interesting medical based movie or create Thanksgiving cards to give to the Levine’s Children's Hospital.

Our own Chapter President serves as the District 6 HOSA Secretary and assisted in both the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the conference. She was able to hand out several medals and pins to North Mecklenburg competitors. In fact, North Meck students placed in the top ten in almost every single event offered at the District 6 Leadership Conference! Growing from a club of eight members to sixty-four, our chapter was able to bring home many more medals than last year. Some of North Mecklenburg medal haul includes Stephany Murray-Gramlich’s first place in Sports Medicine, Sara O’Brien’s third place in Prepared Speaking, Hayley Bowland’s first place in Medical Photography, and a fourth place finish in the extremely competitive event, HOSA Bowl.

Our Chapter President quotes, “This has been the experience of a lifetime. Being the president of such an amazing club has allowed me to see my own peers grow and blossom as they discover their STEM passions. The cherry on top of being a District Officer was being able to bestow several of my chapter’s members with medals and pins. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for this excellent team, especially at our State Conference in March!”
