You're Somebody's Type, Donate Blood!

30 minutes is all it takes to save a life...

North Meck HOSA will host our first ever Blood Drive with the Community Blood Center of the Carolinas (CBCC) on August 2nd, 2017 from 9 AM until 1 PM. The Blood Drive will be held in the media center on North Mecklenburg's campus. Registration before donation will be done inside the media center and donations will be done on the mobiles, located in the teacher parking lot. Help make an impact today and sign up to support NM HOSA and the local health community. Participating in blood drives makes you eligible to earn graduation cords, free food, t-shirts, and a chance to save a life! You must be of sixteen years of age and 120 pounds to donate. 16-year-olds are required to have a signed Parental Consent Form. All donors are required to provide a form of photo identification. Need further convincing to donate?

  • The Community Blood Center of the Carolinas is the primary blood supplier to 27 regional hospitals.

  • When you donate with CBCC, your blood stays right here, saving local lives in our community.

  • One pint of whole blood can help save up to three local lives when separated into red cells, plasma, and platelets.

  • Our local hospitals require more than 400 blood products each day to treat local patients.

Blood Donation FAQs

  1. Does it hurt? - Blood donation is a momentary discomfort for the donor that can provide a lifetime of difference for the patient.

  2. Is my blood tested? - Your blood donation is tested for many blood-borne illnesses, including HIV. It is not tested for the presence of drugs or alcohol.

  3. Can I give blood if I recently got a tattoo or piercing? - Piercings do not disqualify you from donating as long as they were done with single-use, disposable equipment. Tattoos do not disqualify you from donating if they were done with a single-use needle at a licensed facility. If not professionally done, you must wait one school year to donate blood.
